Both in-ground and above ground trampolines need to be used wtih safety in mind. Responsible in-ground trampoline ownership means that the adults in the household need ot set rules and that everyone needs to follow them to assure no one is injured on the in-ground trampoline.
When children, or adults for that matter, land incorrectly or improperly on the trampoline they can break a bone, or worse. Children must be aware that performing “stunts” is off limits for safety’s sake.
Here are some in-ground trampoline safety tips to consider putting in place for your family:
- Only one person on the trampoline at a time.
- No somersaults or backflips
- Don’t jump on or use the in-ground trampoline without having knowledgeable supervision aka a “spotter”
- Walk onto the trampoline — don’t bounce from next to it then into it. Injuries could result.
- If you’re under the influence of alcohol, don’t use the in-ground trampoline as you may get careless and get injured.
- Don’t use the trampoline to jump from one surface to another.
- Remove sharp objects when jumping. You may also want to remove your glasses.
- If you have physical limitations or circulatory impairment, don’t jump unless you have cleared it with your doctor.
- Focus your gaze on the edge of the trampoline to help with balance issues.
- Don’t bounce too high. To stop a bounce, you will want to bend your knees as soon as your feet touch the trampoline.
- Know the weight limit of the trampoline
